The most frequent question we get asked is why the did we choose the name Fitness NATION? Luckily, this is proably the easiest question I will ever have to answer.
Let’s rewind a few years…
It all began in our University years (ahem, OK, maybe a little more than a few years ago). Donovan, Roger and I would spend many a day in the weight room, learning to lift weights.
We honed our craft with great effort. We practiced almost every day and got stronger together. Working out as a group is what helped us on the grid iron and in the dojo as well. Bringing our game up was not just about competition, it was to elevate our sparring partners and teamates. To make them better. To encourage them and celebrate their accomplishments.
Shortly after this, we discovered cross-fit style strength training classes, which were focused on group exercises. We realized that the individuals in these classes were getting stronger, leaner and more fit with the group than if they trained on their own. They were accountable (as were we) to each other and the energy of every repitition and each session.
Bottom line is we quickly realized that people were more motivated and got better results working as a team than working on their own.
Fast forward to today…When we began talking about our vision for a fitness centre, we didn’t want to be just another gym. We didn’t want to shove our space full of useless gym equipment and charge people a monthly fee to access the space. We wanted to build a place where people actually see and sustain great results. We wanted to focus fitness around group training. We wanted to build a community. A nation of people ready and willing to work with each other to kick some butt.
Because together, we are stronger.
And this is why we are the NATION.
